Every spring, San Antonio comes alive with one of the most unique celebrations in the country — Fiesta San Antonio.

Taking place April 16–26, 2026, this 11-day citywide celebration brings together more than 2.5 million locals and visitors for parades, food, music, and over 100 events across the city.

But Fiesta is more than just a celebration.

Known as a “Party With a Purpose,” Fiesta is rooted in giving back. Nearly 100 nonprofit organizations host official events, raising funds that support programs and communities throughout San Antonio year-round.

What is Fiesta San Antonio?

Fiesta began in 1891 as a way to honor the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. What started as a single parade has grown into a citywide celebration of San Antonio’s rich culture, history, and community.

Today, Fiesta includes more than 100 official events, ranging from parades and festivals to cultural showcases, live music, and culinary experiences.

It’s a tradition that continues to bring the city together year after year.

Traditions You Need to Know

If it’s your first time experiencing Fiesta, there are a few traditions you’ll notice right away.

  • “Show Me Your Shoes!” – During the Battle of Flowers Parade, Fiesta royalty show off elaborate and often over-the-top shoes, prompting the crowd to shout, “Show me your shoes!”
  • Fiesta Medals – Collecting Fiesta medals is one of the most beloved traditions. Locals wear them proudly on sashes, jackets, and hats — often collecting dozens (or more) each year.
  • Fiesta Fashion – Think bold, colorful, and festive. Flower crowns, bright outfits, and creative accessories are all part of the experience.
  • Fiesta Royalty – Each year, members of Fiesta royalty — including King Antonio, Rey Feo, and the Queen of the Order of the Alamo — are selected based on their contributions to the community.
  • Fiesta Food Favorites – Fiesta is just as much about the food as it is the celebration. One of the most iconic staples is Chicken on a Stick — a crispy, deep-fried chicken strip paired with a jalapeño. It’s simple, portable, and a must-try during Fiesta. You’ll also find a wide variety of local favorites, from tacos and gorditas to sweet treats and refreshing drinks, all served up at festivals and booths across the city.

Must-Attend Events

With more than 100 events, there’s something for everyone. Here are a few highlights:

  • Fiesta Fiesta – The official kickoff event held at Travis Park, featuring live music, food, and a festive, family-friendly atmosphere.
  • Battle of Flowers Parade – One of the most iconic Fiesta traditions, featuring elaborate floats, marching bands, and the famous “Show Me Your Shoes” moment.

First-Timer Tips for Fiesta

If you’re planning to attend Fiesta for the first time, a few tips can help you make the most of it:

  • Dress the Part – Bright colors, flower crowns, and comfortable shoes are a must.
  • Plan Ahead – With so many events, it helps to map out which ones you want to attend in advance.
  • Use VIA Park & Ride or Rideshare – Parking downtown can be limited, so transportation planning is key.
  • Start Your Medal Collection – Pick up Fiesta medals at events and join in on one of the city’s favorite traditions.

Why Fiesta Matters

What truly sets Fiesta apart is its impact.

Behind every parade, festival, and event is a nonprofit organization working to support the San Antonio community. Proceeds from Fiesta events go toward scholarships, local programs, and initiatives that make a difference year-round.

It’s a celebration with purpose — and one that reflects the heart of San Antonio.
